We’re an experienced multi-disciplinary team who assess and provide treatment for young people between the ages of 6 and 18 who are suspected of having, or who have been diagnosed with, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

The team comprises consultant psychiatrists, staff grade psychiatrists, clinical nurse specialists, non-medical prescribers and assistant psychologists.

Begin by following the referral process (details below in 'Accessing our service') If the questionnaires submitted show a possibility of your child having symptoms of ADHD, they will be invited in for a quantitative behaviour (Qb) test.

The Qb test is a computerised test during which your child is asked to perform a series of simple tasks, and their movement, attention and any impulsive responses are recorded. Their activity during the test will be measured with infrared motion tracking.

Once the Qb test is completed, your child will be invited back for a second appointment to discuss the results with a clinician, and to take more detailed information about their developmental history, school, home life and behaviour. The clinician will also make further observations of your child’s behaviour.

Interventions depend on the findings of the assessment and level of impact on the child or young persons life.

They will usually include:

  • Recommendations for behavioural strategies at home and at school
  • Signposting to targeted ADHD parenting programs and parenting support in the community
  • Psychoeducation
  • Consideration of medication to manage symptoms in the most severe cases
  • Medication reviews.

Referrals should be made by a professional, such as a special educational needs co-ordinator (SENCO) or an educational psychologist, who has been able to observe your child.

Please read the referral criteria carefully before you complete our referral form.
